For a reconnection with science,
free from pressure and superficiality
Starting in 2027, DARE will propose a scientific residency programme. A peaceful setting, reconnected with nature and disconnected from the digital world. Weekly or monthly stays will be available. Nutrition, physical activity, a quiet environment, and scientific discussion will allow researchers to rediscover the very essence of research — deep thinking and inspiration.
This initiative is rooted in a long-standing concern shared by some of the greatest scientific minds. Albert Einstein already warned us that excessive pressure to publish creates a danger of intellectual superficiality. Peter Higgs, who predicted the existence of the boson decades before it could be experimentally observed, declared in the year of his Nobel Prize that he would not have secured an academic position in 2013, as he would not have been considered sufficiently productive. His life's work, one of the most remarkable theoretical achievements in modern physics, would have been incompatible with today's publish-or-perish culture.
Scientific residencies are not a luxury; they are a necessity for the kind of deep, unhurried thinking that makes transformative science possible.
